Meet Juan C. Couto, Psy.D.

Juan C. Couto, Psy.D. is the founder and owner of NoVA/DC Psychology, PLLC. He provides therapy services to adults and adolescents dealing with anxiety, depression, OCD, anger, trauma, phobias, panic disorder, insomnia, personality disorders, self-injury, and suicidality.

Dr. Couto is registered as a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with the Virginia Board of Psychology, the District of Columbia Board of Psychology, the National Register of Health Service Psychologists, and the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT).

Throughout his career, Dr. Couto has worked with a culturally diverse clientele in a variety of treatment settings, including in private practice, hospitals, emergency services departments, and community mental health programs. Dr. Couto has also held multiple leadership and supervisory positions, and has been responsible for training and supervising psychologists and other mental health practitioners. 

Dr. Couto has advanced training and extensive experience in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for OCD, Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, and Motivational Interviewing. Owing to his multicultural background, he is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian.

Dr. Couto enjoys helping clients navigate interpersonal problems, challenges, and life transitions. He is passionate about working collaboratively with clients to ensure that treatment is individualized and adapted to their unique needs.
